SOURCE BOOK I
A copy of
Source Book I is located on each table in the Library (purchase
a copy). This book contains a list of all the Family
Histories in the Library, including a cross index of surnames found
in other family histories. Source
Book I also contains a list by surname of the Huxford
Handwritten Notes, Surname Files and Correspondence Files.
Please ask the Library staff
for these files by surname one at a time.
Huxford Handwritten Notes
- The Huxford Handwritten Notes are index sized
cards that contain the late Judge Folks
Huxford data on over 5,000 individual families compiled from his
research and interviews. Some of these cards have
documentation while others do not. In fact, they
are worksheets which he added to as new information surfaced.
Data from complete cards was used in compiling the
Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia
volumes. A copy of these cards can be found in alphabetical
order in the Family History Section.
Surname Files
- The Surname Files have been made from
information contributed by the membership over the past 34 years.
They contain material such as Bible records, census records,
courthouse data, family group sheets, etc.
Correspondence Files
- The Correspondence Files contain genealogical
correspondence to and from the late Judge Folks Huxford. These
files are very valuable and contain information that might not be
found anywhere else. They began in the 1920s and continued
until his death in 1981. Someone named Smith may have written
about Jones, so a cross-index has been compiled making it easier to
use these files. The cross-index is located in the back of the
Library (next to the USA section) in the small cabinet.
SOURCE
BOOK II
A copy of
Source Book II is also located on each
table in the Library (purchase
a copy). The numbering system of the Library and the
compilation of this book is by former Huxford Society Board Member
Charles Tyson of Waycross, Georgia for which we are eternally
grateful.
This book is an index of
everything in the Library that is not listed in Source Book I.
Source Book II is broken down by Nations, America, USA and then in
alphabetical order by each state. After each state is an
alphabetical list of the counties. It is very important to use
this book because if you go directly to the county or state that you
are researching in, you will miss valuable information that may be
found in another publication. These are called PIS
(Publications in Series) in the Source Book. The PIS books are
not located in the state or county section, but are on the shelf
under the overhead screen beside the kitchen door. Source Book
II will also tell you what year each county was created, the county
or counties it was organized from, the count seat, and if the
courthouse records are intact or when and how the records were lost.
The Library
staff will give you an overview of Source Book I and II
when you first visit the Library.
