Membership in Huxford Genealogical Society is not required Robert B. Noles, Wiregrass Georgia Regional DNA Project Group Administrator BACKGROUND This Regional DNA Project
is for living descendants of the pioneers of the Wiregrass area of Georgia and
the neighboring area of northern Florida. The northern Florida counties in close proximity to the Wiregrass Georgia region (commonly referred to as the Suwannee Land) is where many of the descendants of the early Wiregrass pioneers migrated. The Florida Suwannee Land counties are: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Duval, Gadsden, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Madison, St. Johns, Putnam, Suwannee, Taylor, and Union. The surnames of interest for the Wiregrass Georgia (and northern Florida) Regional DNA Project include (but are not limited to) those listed via the Surname link below and the existing projects of special interest to descendants of Wiregrass Georgia Pioneers are listed under Wiregrass DNA Projects. This project is for the purpose of supporting the genealogical efforts of the descendants for all the many pioneer families who settled the Wiregrass Georgia Region. Many surnames were changed during the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries due to adoptions, out-of-wedlock births, family disagreements, etc. Therefore, the Y-DNA for many descendants may not match other descendants with the same surname. This project will permit comparisons of Y-DNA test results across the spectrum of Wiregrass families in conjunction with the use of the Wiregrass Family Database maintained by Robert B. Noles and the resources of the Huxford Genealogical Library. The Wiregrass Database contains the published genealogies (and a lot more) from the Folks Huxford and the Huxford Genealogical Society publications. The Wiregrass Georgia Regional DNA Project is open to anyone who believes they are (or could be) descendants of one of the area’s pioneer families. This project is both a Y-Chromosome (direct paternal line) and a mitochondrial DNA (direct maternal line) study. You are hereby cordially invited to participate in this historic project. Those requesting participation are requested to supply Robert B. Noles with their known genealogies. POSTING of RESULTS Results for DNA tests and the correlation of these results with genealogies will be posted here as they become available. Participants will NOT be identified by name, but by a code (FTDNA Kit number) to protect your privacy. When available, and by specific permission, the researcher(s) for the genealogies will be identified. The two links above, Haplogroups and Genetic Terms will assist you in understanding the posted test results and the terminology used through out Genetic Genealogy. Participants in the Wiregrass Georgia Regional DNA Project will receive (in the mail) a certificate documenting their test results as well as a detailed report explaining the deep ancestral meaning of the results. In addition, participants will be provided a personal page at FTDNA.com (password protected) where they can examine the results, compare their results to others whose results are genealogically significant, order more tests, etc. Participants will be provided contact information (email only) for the other project members who have genealogical significant matching results.
