When you as a participant in a Family Tree DNA Surname or Regional DNA Project obtain an initial 12, 25, 37 or 67-marker Y-DNA or an mtDNA or mtDNAPlus test, your test results will be posted on your personal page on the FTDNA Web site (protected by your personal code and password).  In addition, a frameable certificate displaying  your allele values (plus an informative report) will be mailed to you.  A sample Y-DNA certificate is displayed at the bottom of this page.

Test participants or their sponsors may also want to order additional certificates for other members of the family, where the DNA results of the person tested also apply to the other family members.   For example, if your father was tested, perhaps you would like to obtain certificates for your siblings, and/or your grandchildren, since your father's results apply to these persons as well.  A selection to "order certificates" now appears on a participant's Family Tree DNA personal page.

If you initially order a 12-marker test, and then later upgrade to a 25 (or 37 or 67) marker test, you only receive a free certificate with the initial 12-marker test.   However, a new certificate for the 25 (or 37 or 67) marker test is available for a small additional charge.

When you have upgraded to a 25 (or 37 or 67) marker test and want to obtain a new certificate for the 25 (or 37 or 67) marker test, simply click on "order certificates" to place an order.  The same applies if you order an mtDNA test, and later upgrade to mtDNA Plus.  You only received a free certificate for the mtDNA test, but you can now order a new certificate for the mtDNA Plus test.

If you initially order the Y-DNA 25-marker test, or the mtDNA Plus, you will receive that test's certificate.  In other words, all the tests at Family Tree DNA include a certificate, except the Y-DNA upgrade and mtDNA Plus upgrade.  This is illustrated in the list below:
